What a weekend, Local 23! On Saturday, Local 23 welcomed contractors, bricklayers, tilesetters and more to a community event in Columbus, meant to reintroduce the union to the area and generate interest about BAC and everything a union job has to offer.

“Saturday was a fantastic representation of our union and everything we have to offer Columbus and our community. Families from all walks of life came together to learn about the union and how we can be a pillar in this community. It’s about bringing people together, having conversations about our collective future, and spreading the word about what we do. We’re here to stay, and we want Columbus families and craftworkers to know it,” said Local 23 President Danny Musacchio.

From face painting to tasty eats and a Buckeye football victory, everyone had a great time on Saturday. Check out a recap video below!

BAC Organizing Convention:
Building Our Union’s Future!

Over the last week, organizers from around the International Union gathered in Columbus to take part in the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers Annual Organizing Convention, hosted this year in Columbus, Ohio. Columbus was chosen this year because the International recognized Local 23’s commitment to grow and foster that market.

The first half of the week was spent in sessions covering organizing strategy, member engagement, and field tactics. The second half was spent out in the field, hitting job sites and leaving no stone unturned as organizers put those lessons directly into practice.

Local 23’s Danny Musacchio participated in a panel discussing Field Work Logistics, alongside Matt Stafford, IU Organizing Director, and Jeremy Rivas, IU North Central Regional Director.

“The tools and practices we learned last week at the organizing conference will strengthen our ability to keep doing right by our members. Every person on Local 23’s staff is focused on one thing: serving our members and improving their lives through this union. Part of how we do that is by learning and adapting. The potential for growth in the capital city is unprecedented, the impact our efforts will have on our members, their community and future collective bargaining, will eventually rival many major markets in the country,” said Musacchio.

“Thanks to the hard work of our organizers, from Local 23 and the International, every single non-union contractor in this city now knows that BAC is here, and we’re not going anywhere,” Musacchio added.

International Masonry Institute Aspiring Contractor Program

Our upcoming Aspiring Contractor Program is an excellent opportunity for any members who have expressed interest in starting their own businesses.

The 5-day virtual course, held October 12-16 from 7-9 p.m. ET, gives BAC members the tools they need to successfully establish a union contracting company. The program covers all the basics for getting started, from creating a business plan, to financing options, registering a company, and beyond.

Experienced business owners, industry professionals, and BAC/IMI experts will lead BAC members through the course.

If you know of anyone who may be a good fit, feel free to register here.
