Welcome to the BAC Local 23 Weekly Update – December 31, 2024

Happy New Year To You And Yours

We hope you are having a great holiday break and we want to wish you and yours a Happy New Year!

We are looking forward to 2025.

Please read and share our weekly emails because we want to provide information about your union and include any opportunities for work. Below, you will see that a Youngstown, OH company wants to hire union bricklayers to build a school building in Cleveland, OH.

In 2025, this email will contain a lot of information about how your union works for you, our union history, and the great BAC Local 23 members in four states that help build their communities brick by brick in so many ways.

If you have a story you want to share with your fellow members, please send it to info@bac23.org. We look forward to hearing from you.

Standing With Our West Virginia
Building Trades Sisters and Brothers

Prevailing wage, project labor agreements, collective bargaining rights – these are our bread and butter issues that put food on our table.

And when someone tries to attack one of those guiding principles, we stand strong together.

Recently, BAC Local 23 members in West Virginia stood strong with the West Virginia Building & Construction Trades when Kanawha County Commissioner Lance Wheeler tried to strip Davis-Bacon prevailing wage rates from a $13.5 million judicial annex project in Kanawha County under the false idea it would save money.

The West Virginia Trades asked union sisters and brothers to send a message to Wheeler to stop attacking local workers and to keep our workforce skilled and drug-free, and we created and sent a flyer asking our sisters and brothers in BAC Local 23 to join in and voice their opposition to Wheeler.

Labor has supporters on the commission. Two Kanawha County Commissioners, Ben Salango and Marc Slotnick, voted down Wheeler’s motion.

Commissioner Salongo responded: “What I want is skilled labor, skilled workers who can do the job right the first time.” Amen to that.

Please download and share the flyer below to spread the word!

We also want to thank Jairo Cabrera, who served as Field Representative in the district for years with distinction.

We wish Brother Cabrera the best in his new endeavors.

3-Member Election Committee Named

Unions are built member by member just as buildings are erected brick by brick.

Mike Collins, Donald Mays and Russell Cerisano were appointed Wednesday to serve on the Election Committee by President Danny Musacchio in accordance with the Model Constitution. Under the Model Constitution, the Election Committee is responsible for the upcoming nominations and election.

The Nomination Meeting will be held on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2025 beginning at 11 a.m. at the Plumbers & Pipefitters Local, 1250 Kinnear Road, Columbus, OH 43212.

At that time, nominations will be accepted for President, Secretary/Treasurer and five Vice Chair positions for BAC Local 23.

Among other duties, the Election Committee is responsible for ensuring candidates nominated at the Jan. 11 nominations meeting in Columbus meet the eligibility requirements for serving as an elected officer for BAC Local 23.
