Giving back to the community is an important part of what it means to be a member of BAC Local 23. Recently, Central Ohio Chapter members Chuck Boring and Bill Hulet, along with first-year apprentice Tyrell Mackey, put their skills to work for Charity Newsies, rebuilding a brick pier for the local nonprofit.
Charity Newsies provides children enrolled in school from kindergarten through 12th grade in Franklin County, Ohio with brand new clothing. They serve children by providing them with socks, underwear, pants, shirts, a coat, hat and gloves and much more. Charity Newsies has provided clothing to almost 800,000 Franklin County children since they were founded in 1907.
“We’re proud to be part of this community, and as Columbus continues to grow, we want to make sure we’re giving back along the way. This is what our trade is all about – using the skills we have to help people and make our community a little better. It’s great to see our members, including a first-year apprentice like Tyrell, stepping up and getting involved,” said Local 23 President Danny Musacchio.

North Shore Chapter Food Pantry Drive:
Donation Match Can Double Your Impact
Local 23’s North Shore Chapter is going strong! Local 23 is partnering with Holy Redeemer Church’s Cabrini House Pantry in Cleveland and St. Bede’s Helping Hands Pantry in Mentor to help support working families and neighbors in need.
Both pantries gratefully accept monetary donations, but they’re also in need of essential items, including:
- Hygiene products: Body wash, shampoo, wipes, toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, feminine hygiene products, hand sanitizer, mouthwash, shaving cream, and razors.
- Cold-weather clothing: Coats, gloves, hats, thermal socks, long underwear, and blankets.
- Non-perishable food: Canned soup, vegetables, fruit, tuna (easy-open cans preferred), boxed mashed potatoes, boxed rice, peanut butter, jelly, pasta sauce, noodles, and ramen.
Do you want to double your impact? BAC Local 23 is pledging to match any monetary donation to the drive – that means you can DOUBLE your money. Donate $10 –> $20 goes to the drive.
Members can drop off donations at the union hall or give them to one of our field representatives. We will be accepting donations through November 13, at which time everything collected will be delivered to the pantries.
